SOM Buyers’ guide: wellbeing products and services

Buyers Guides

With many employers still struggling to navigate the maze of wellbeing products and services available, The Society of Occupational Medicine (SOM) has launched a timely new guide.

The guide aims to provide all those responsible for purchasing wellbeing products or services with evidence-based frameworks to make informed and effective decisions and make sure there are no unintended consequences for your workers.

Nick Pahl, Chief Executive, SOM and Jo Yarker, Professor of Occupational Psychology, Birkbeck University of London (who authored the guide), will be joined on stage by Steve Iley, Chief Medical Officer, Jaguar Landrover (who contributed to the guide) at the Leaders’ Summit at the MAD World Festival of Workplace Culture, Employee Health and Wellbeing on Thursday 17th October.

They’ll be talking about this guide, as well as how professionals tasked with leading wellbeing strategies can approach the multiple challenges that they’re facing, including:

  • How do you decide which frameworks, guidelines or policies are best for your organisation?
  • Financial, psychological, physical, social – how do you prioritise the many facets of wellbeing?
  • Benefits, occupational health, training – how do you navigate the maze of solutions to find the right blend for your people?
  • ROI, VOI, impact – how do you know what activities are making a difference, which ones aren’t?

The guide covers:

  • The importance of choosing the right wellbeing interventions and avoiding non-evidence-based, potentially harmful, solutions
  • Evidence-based frameworks to help identify gaps in provision to inform purchasing needs
  • The role of OH services in providing support and advice on improving work environments and cultures
  • The challenges posed by the increasing number of digital health solutions, such as insufficient evidence of effectiveness, data security issues, and ensuring access and engagement
  • Ongoing monitoring of impact and evaluation of wellbeing interventions to confirm they are achieving the desired outcomes.

You can download the guide here.
