Our Movers and Shakers articles highlight and celebrate those that are moving up, out or across in the rapidly evolving world of workplace culture, employee health and wellbeing. Here’s a selection of just a few of the many “movers and shakers” that have grabbed my attention in June 2025.
Their job titles are varied, reflecting the diversity of our network, which aims to bring together all stakeholders responsible for workplace culture, employee health, and wellbeing — breaking down silos to REALLY make a difference and advance best practice.
Steve Iley, Chief Medical Officer, BP
First up is the inimitable Steve Iley, who after more than six years with Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) – first as their Chief Medical Officer, then adding Health, Safety and Wellbeing to his job title – has moved to global energy giant BP.
Steve is a trailblazer in his field. You can read more about his approach in the profile interview which Suzy Bashford conducted ahead of his appearance at our sister event, The Watercooler, back in 2023. In this he shared his tips on creating an award-winning holistic wellbeing culture.
Steve is also quoted in this article on how employers can support the government’s mission to shift to preventative healthcare and this article, where a range of leaders shared advice for sons on how to navigate work with their wellbeing intact.
We wish you well in your new role Steve.
Amanda Hammond, Strategic Wellbeing Lead, Canada Life UK
Next is the inspirational Amanda Hammond. After almost 17 years with the global information and communication technology (ICT) company Fujitsu, Amanda started a new role with Canada Life UK in April 2025 as their Strategic Wellbeing Lead.
Writing on LinkedIn about her new job Amanda said: “I’ve been working at Canada Life UK for just over three weeks and it’s clear to me that the culture is supportive and caring with a real focus on people”. This was as part of a post announcing that Canada Life had been shortlisted for an award recognising their support of fathers.
Since then, Canada Life’s commitment to financial wellbeing has also been recognised, earning an award for driving the greatest impact on benefits and retirement plan uptake.
It sounds like you’ve joined a great employer Amanda.
Jo Forbes, Head of Health, Safety & Wellbeing, Osborne Clarke
Congratulations also go to rising star Jo Forbes, who has been promoted from Health, Safety & Wellbeing Strategy Manager with legal firm Osborne Clarke to their Head of Health, Safety & Wellbeing.
Jo is a driving force behind Osborne Clarke’s risk assessed, data driven, preventative wellbeing strategy which helps to sustain a high performance culture and positive wellbeing – with all the associated benefits for both the company’s people and their clients.
If you’d like to read more about Jo’s work she has been quoted in many of our articles on www.makeadifference.media, including this one on how employers can make manager health & wellbeing training stick, and this one outlining eight actions employers can take to foster resilience.
Rebecca Ormond, EMEA Head of Diversity, Inclusion & Wellbeing, Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation
Kudos also to Rebecca Ormond, who has been promoted to Executive Director at SMBC Group. In her announcement on LinkedIn she explained: “What I am really thrilled about is this is such a vote for the ongoing importance of DEI and wellbeing – ensuring fairness at work and that #TeamSMBC is a place where everyone can thrive”.
We second that Rebecca.
You can read more about Rebecca in this feature which asked “Should you merge DEI & Wellbeing into one role, like SMBC Bank?”
Chalene Hanson, HR Director, Apple
Our next Mover is Chalene Hanson. After rising to Global HR Director, HRBP during her four years with British luxury fashion brand Burberry, Chalene has taken on the role of Regional Lead, People & Site Strategy – MEA & DACH with global tech giant Apple.
Writing on LinkedIn Chalene shared that she was wrapped in gratitude whilst closing an iconic chapter at Burberry. She explained: “After 4.5 extraordinary years, it’s time to step into my next adventure.
This decision wasn’t made lightly—because Burberry has been so much more than a workplace. It’s been a House of transformation, purpose, and inspiration, shaped by some of the most talented and creative minds”.
Commenting on her new role, also on LinkedIn, Chalene wrote: “New company – new city – new role – same passion for people and purpose”.
Chalene, your energy and passion is infectious and we look forward to catching up soon.
Carole Spiers MBE, Chair, International Stress Management Association & Founder, International Stress Awareness Week
Last but not least, I wanted to recognise that the phenomenal Carole Spiers has been awarded an MBE for her services to mental health and stress management.
Announcing the news on LinkedIn Carole wrote: “I’m deeply proud and humbled to have been awarded a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) in the King’s Birthday Honours List for services to stress management and mental health — a recognition that reflects my lifelong mission to champion wellbeing in the workplace”.
Some of the articles that Carole has contributed to www.makeadifference.media include this one focused on “Why managers should listen” and this one, which charts “50 years of progress is health and wellbeing”.
