New Leaders Podcast: supporting neurodivergent employees, with BNP Paribas’s Lauren Lunniss

podcast 1

With neurodiversity talked about more today than ever before, many employees are diagnosing, not only themselves, but their family members too. This, coupled with the long NHS waiting lists for formal diagnoses, means employees are increasingly looking to employers to bridge the gap in healthcare provision.

But what should employers do? And is it reasonable to cover employees’ family members too?

In our latest episode of the MAD Leaders Podcast, Health & Wellbeing Lead at BNP Paribas, Lauren Lunniss (pictured), is candid that it was a complete “wake up call” to see the results of a survey reflecting just how many of her employees identified as neurodivergent (you’ll have to listen to the episode to hear the percentage!).

You can access the MAD Leaders Podcast: workplace culture, employee health and wellbeing on all platforms, including Apple Podcasts and Spotify:

Lauren talks us through what she did in response to huge demand, the challenges involved and the importance of creating a psychologically safe culture so people feel they can disclose. She reveals pretty impressive numbers regarding results (again, you’ll have to listen for these – and to find out how she has managed to link uptake of services to productivity).

True to the podcast format, Lauren also answers the trademark ‘Alien’ question at the end of the podcast too.

The MAD Leaders Club covers the hot topics in workplace culture, employee health and wellbeing with episodes so far on balancing profits and people, managing the multigenerational workforce and lack of engagement in wellbeing. Every episode takes a problem which is then worked through to resolution with an employer who has genuinely faced this themselves and so can talk honestly about what worked (and what didn’t).
