The term “key worker” defines an employee who works in either the private or public sector in a profession that is considered to provide an essential service to society. This includes emergency services, but it also includes a host of other sectors including retail, utilities, banks, insurance, education, charities, local government to name a few.
The critical role that key workers play was highlighted during Covid-19, with many key workers on the frontline dealing daily with the public, keeping operations going and underpinning the economy’s resilience. The immediate threat of the pandemic may have eased but, as we all navigate our new reality, the pressure on key workers continues.
