Watch the highlights: Inside our Make a Difference Leaders AGM & Leadership Forum

Andy Haldane CBE being interviewed at the Make a Difference Leaders AGM & Leadership Forum 2026

What does it take to create healthier workplaces, stronger cultures and better business?

It’s a question that brought more than a hundred employer-side leaders together at the Make a Difference Leaders AGM & Leadership Forum at the British Library on 19 October.

The event was built around a simple but increasingly important idea: in a world of competing pressures, rapid change and rising expectations, progress depends not on doing more, but on having the clarity and courage to focus on what matters most.

Tackling the big questions facing employers

From the opening keynote by Andrew Haldane CBE, President of the British Chambers of Commerce, and the expert panel chaired by Professor Dame Carol Black GBE, to employer case studies, peer-led discussions and practical workshops, the day explored what it takes to turn good intentions into meaningful change.

The conversations spanned some of the biggest challenges facing employers today: leadership accountability, the future of work, prevention and workforce health, toxic leadership, and how organisations can connect employee health and wellbeing with risk, resilience and sustainable performance.

There was also a strong emphasis on learning from one another. By bringing together leaders working across HR, reward, benefits, occupational health, wellbeing, inclusion and organisational culture, the Forum created space to share experience, challenge assumptions and explore practical approaches to common problems.

Turning shared insight into practical action

That exchange of perspectives matters. Workplace health and culture cannot be addressed effectively in isolation, nor can responsibility sit with one team alone. Progress requires organisations to look at how leadership, working practices, support services and business priorities fit together.

Matt Balfour’s video offers a flavour of the day and the people behind these conversations. For us, that is at the heart of Make a Difference Leaders: creating opportunities for employer-side leaders to learn from peers, tackle difficult questions together and identify where collective insight can translate into practical action.

Because healthier workplaces, stronger cultures and better business are not competing ambitions. They are connected – and making that connection count is work worth doing together.
